MicroCare Medical is a leader in lint-free wipes and swabs used for critical cleaning applications. There are three major considerations to be evaluated when selecting wipes:
1. Target the wipe to the cleaning fluids and the contamination. Some wipes will not absorb water; others work better with solvents, paints and lacquers. For example, polyester is petroleum-based, so polyester wipes easily absorb hydrocarbons such as oils and alcohols.
2. Cleanliness is inversely related to absorbency. The cleanest wipes will be less porous and will not absorb as much. More absorbent materials may leave fibers or residues.
3. Materials compatibility. The construction of the wipe or swab must be compatible with the application. For example, if acetone is used on foam, the foam will swell and weaken, so a polyester wipe or swab is a better choice.
