Case Study: Human factor patient recruitment

For this study, our client sought to recruit individuals aged 12 to 17 who were prescribed specific types of insulin and had experience injecting themselves with it regularly. The trial would assess participants’ experience with an alternative insulin injection device to determine non-inferiority to the current injection device available.

Because participants were required to already be prescribed specific types of insulin, it was necessary to conduct recruitment in a way that could reach these individuals. Additional challenges included the necessity of a caregiver due to the age requirement and recruiting for a single site location, but because this trial required just one visit and offered compensation, there was a clear incentive for patients to take part.
