Precision deep drawn components start out as a sheet metal “blank” and are sequentially pressed into a cup shaped die. The presses and dies get subsequently deeper and narrower, producing the desired depth and diameter cup. From this point, secondary operations such as machining are performed to yield a final component. There is a tremendous cost advantage with deep drawn components, since the raw material starts out as nearly the same net size as the final part, which eliminates excess scrap.
