Ruland manufactures three series of zero backlash beam couplings in inch or metric dimensions with outside diameters ranging from 3/8" (10mm) to 1 1/2" (38mm). Flexible beam couplings in all three series are machined from a single piece of aluminum or stainless steel and feature multiple spiral cuts. The multiple cut design provides higher torque capabilities and greatly reduced wind-up when compared to commodity type single beam couplings.

Beam couplings from Ruland can accommodate parallel misalignment, angular misalignment, and axial motion, where traditional beam couplings can not accommodate parallel misalignment. Four beam couplings are more flexible with lower bearing loads when compared to six beam couplings. They are ideally suited for light duty applications. Six beam couplings are higher performing with increased torque and torsional stiffness at the cost of flexibility allowing them to be used in more demanding applications.

Ruland was established in 1937 and for the past 40 years has focused on designing and manufacturing high performing shaft collars and couplings. All metallic Ruland products are made in its Marlborough Massachusetts factory under strict controls using proprietary processes. The complete line of products includes shaft collars and rigid couplings, and a full line of zero backlash motion control couplings: beam, bellows, oldham, disc and curved jaw.
