PTFE Spiral Heat-Shrink Tubing
by
TELEFLEX MEDICAL OEM
PTFE (Polytetraflouroethylene) spiral heat-shrink tubing provides a protective covering that resists heat, shock, corrosion, moisture, and other extremes. The tubing is water resistant, chemically inert, and is produced in a variety of custom sizes with a range of shrink ratios.
Spiral heat-shrink tubing is used in the medical device industry for guidewire visibility during endoscopic procedures. The spiral jacket on the wire allows the surgeon to judge the insertion rate into the body.
Applications
■ Guidewire jacketing (interventional, access)
■ Coating surgical instruments
■ Dielectric insulation
■ Component covering
■ Waterproofing
■ Abrasion/corrosion protection
■ Reflow bonding
Product Information
■ Shrink ratios to 4:1.
■ Minimum expanded ID: 0.002" (0.051mm) larger than maximum core diameter.
■ Maximum recovered ID: 0.003" (0.076mm) smaller than minimum core diameter.
■ Recovered wall thickness +/- .001" (0.0025mm) when over the nominal core.
■ Custom sizes, lengths, and colors are available.
■ Teleflex Medical OEM can minimize lengthwise shrinkage at recovery.
Recovery Temperature Requirements
PTFE heat shrinkable tubing requires a recovery temperature of 662 degrees ± 8 degrees F (350 degrees ± 4 degrees C) for 10 minutes unrestricted (per MIL-I-23053/12A). Note: The actual temperature and time will depend on the size of the tubing and the application.
Sterilization
■ EtO and autoclave
