Medical Tubing and Balloon Measurement Challenges
When it comes to thickness measurements, engineers have used traditional methods such as pin gauges, micrometers, and razor blades; literally for centuries – and these devices can consistently produce an error rate higher than 60%. However, in the medical and ophthalmic industries manual contact measurement tools are no longer accurate enough to validate more complex, and often miniaturized 21st century products – particularly where the material has some variation, is softer, or multiple layers are involved.
Medical device manufacturers need an inspection system that has repeatable measurements, is flexible, easy to use, extremely accurate, and could be used either at-line or online, depending on the product.
